Le chat mâle pose moins de soucis lors d’une
reproduction non désirée (pas de mise-bas à gérer ni de petits à replacer).
En revanche, la castration permet de prévenir un certain nombre de
comportements gênants liés à la production d’hormones sexuelles. En
particulier, la castration limite l’aggressivité des mâles, les fugues associées à la période de reproduction et les marquages urinaires répétés.

La chirurgie permet également de limiter le risque d’apparition de certaines pathologies, comme les infections aux virus FIV («sida du chat»), transmissible par voie sanguine ou sexuelle, et FeLV, transmissible par la salive.

La castration permet de multiplier par deux l’espérance de vie des chats mâles!!! (16 ans en moyenne contre 8 ans pour les chats mâles entiers)

La castration est aussi intéressante en traitement (donc après l’apparition) de certaines pathologies, par exemple en cas de cryptorchidie (lorsque les testicules ne sont pas bien descendus lors de la croissance).

Nous vous recommandons de faire castrer votre chat mâle avant l’apparition des comportements gênants liés à la production d’hormones, donc vers l’âge de 6 mois.

Si il n’est pas encore identifié, nous vous recommandons de le faire lors de la stérilisation : nous pourrons ainsi profiter de son anesthésie pour lui implanter sa puce électronique sans douleur.

Chez le mâle, la castration consiste à retirer les testicules, en laissant leur enveloppe, appelée bourses.

Vous nous déposez votre animal le matin, à jeun. Après l’avoir examiné pour vérifier que tout va bien, nous le tranquilisons puis l’anesthésions avant de le préparer pour la chirurgie. A l’issue de l’intervention, nous lui injectons un anti-inflammatoire et un antalgique, puis nous surveillons son réveil. Vous pouvez le ramenez à la maison dès le soir dans la plupart des cas.
